Rheumatologists are physicians who specialise in the management of joint, muscle and soft tissue disorders. By analogy, they are much like a non-operating orthopaedic surgeon but specialising in autoinflammatory conditions.

  • Degenerative arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Viral infections causing widespread joint pain (eg Ross River virus)
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome 
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic (non-surgical) back pain
  • Soft tissue complaints, eg bursitis, tendonitis (tendon inflammation), capsulitis (inflammation of a joint capsule)
  • Tennis elbow
