Dr McLean has vast experience in all forms of knee problems and injuries. He has managed and operated on many elite level sports-persons and Olympians, including athletes in AFL, skiing, hockey, soccer, rugby, basketball, netball, athletics, cycling, along with many other individuals from recreational sports people, veteran athletes, to non-athletic persons, work injuries and arthritis problems.

He has particular expertise in knee trauma, recovery and surgical procedures. He began his specialisation in knee surgery with a surgical internship under world-leading orthopaedic surgeons Dr Don O’Donoghue and Dr William Grana in Oklahoma City, USA, in 1978. Iain is associated with many advanced knee surgery techniques in Australia, and has been a speaker and leader in the international orthopaedic and sports medicine community for many years.

Dr McLean continues to keep abreast and up to date with all developments in Knee Surgery and Research. He is a Member of the Australian Knee Society (AKS), Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA), the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS), and the AFL Doctors Association.

Dr John Buntine Plastic and Hand Surgeon Melbourne

Dr John Buntine is a specialist Plastic Surgeon and hand surgeon who assesses, with respect to the upper extremity. He performs reports concerning nerve and tendon injuries at and below the level of the elbow including carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuritis, de Quervain’s tendinitis, tennis elbow and trigger finger and thumb. He assesses fractures, ligamentous and soft tissue injuries affecting the hand, wrist and forearm (excluding the elbow joint). He assesses scarring of all parts of the body including tight or hypertrophic scars and keloids. He also advises appropriate treatment relating to hand injuries and scarring.

Mr Buntine served as a tutor in neurophysiology at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, he is a past President of the Australian Hand Surgery Society and he has been in charge of the plastic surgery and hand surgery units of two Melbourne teaching hospitals (the Austin Hospital and later the Box Hill Hospital of Eastern Health).

He was an active member of Victorian Medical Panels for over ten years, he is the President of the Australian Association of Surgeons, a councillor of AMA Victoria, a surgeons’ representative at national conferences of the Federal AMA and until recently his busy surgical public and private practice involved chiefly surgery of the hand and skin cancer.

Prior to studying medicine Dr Power-Connon trained as a nurse and worked in Intensive Care, Coronary Care and was in charge of the Cardiac Surgery Unit at The Royal Hobart Hospital. Dr Matthew Hope Orthopaedic Surgeon Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne

Dr Matthew Hope is a Staff Specialist in adult trauma and orthopaedics at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane with a special interest in foot and ankle conditions. He also works at the new Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, Brisbane with paediatric trauma and foot and ankle surgery.

Dr Hope is currently an appointed Senior Lecturer at Griffith University and takes an active role in the education and training of junior doctors. He has a background in orthopaedic research having attained an MD (Hons) for work on the non-invasive diagnosis of compartment syndrome. He is currently developing a role in rural orthopaedics in the Pacific region.

Since re-settling in Australia in 2010, Dr Hope has been awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in addition to being a fellow of the College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He has attained accreditation as a Certified Independent Medical Examiner (CIME) through The American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME) and completed training in the new WorkCover Guidelines (GEPI (March 2014)). Dr Hope is experienced with examinations concerning the 5th edition of the AMA.

With the specific experience in foot and ankle injuries, Dr Hope provides an opinion that reflects in detail the relevance of injury mechanisms and influence of pre-existing disease. Difficult problems such as injuries to diabetics and crush injuries are dealt with in detail and emphasise the natural history of the conditions and provide advice with regard to prognosis and treatment.

Dr Hope is able to assess all general orthopaedic conditions. His services are available in Brisbane, Darwin and Melbourne for Medilaw.
